We, SNORM, accepted the invitation to collaborate with atelier tho.A in designing furniture for the waiting area of Massage Việt, a space that already features a system of traditional medicine shelves and cabinets creating interwoven horizontal, vertical orientations.
The interior context reminded us of the combination of Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier in the Chandigarh project. In his designs, Pierre Jeanneret proposed furniture models with a common feature in shape and structure, forming an “inverted V” structure. This made the designer’s furniture stand out and elegant in a space created by the strong horizontal, vertical orientations of Le Corbusier’s concrete.
Inspired by that, we created the V3 CHAIR – commonly known as the Ghế V3 – with a structure formed by three “V” shapes, two for the chair legs and one for the backrest. To give the chair a touch of “Việt” in its design, we carefully considered the details of the intersections: between the chair legs and the ground, between the backrest and the seat surface, between the seat surface and the supporting bars, to make them sleeker and more gentle.
Being placed in the lobby space of Massage Việt, if the V3 chair, with its diagonal lines, created different orientations (both horizontal and vertical), we also wanted to bring harmony and gentleness to the space with rounded lines and solid forms. MONOSTU and MONOTAB were born in such a context.
MONOTAB is a table that comes with a set of 2 or 4 V3 Chairs, designed to create a sense of solidity from the tabletop to the table legs. When placed together, MONOTAB brings a calm and stable presence to the diagonal orientation of the V3 chair, thanks to its unified shape.
If MONOTAB was created to bring balance, MONOSTU is like a blend of V3 and MONOTAB. The stool takes inspiration from the solid form of MONOTAB and the backrest of the V3 chair, creating a sense of stability and a unique dynamic elegance.
Lấy cảm hứng từ đó, chúng tôi đã tạo ra chiếc ghế V3 CHAIR – gọi thân thuộc là ghế V3 – mà cấu trúc được tạo thành từ 3 chữ V, hai cho chân ghế và một cho phần lưng. Để cho chiếc ghế có thêm phần “Việt” trong thiết kế, chúng tôi đã cân nhắc những chi tiết của các điểm chạm: giữa chân ghế và đất, giữa lưng ghế và mặt ghế, giữa mặt ngồi và các thanh đỡ sao cho thanh thoát, mềm mại hơn.
Cùng nằm trong không gian sảnh của massage Việt, nếu như ghế V3 cùng với những đường nét xiên đã tạo nên những phương vị khác (với dọc và ngang), thì chúng tôi cũng muốn tạo thêm sự hài hòa, mềm mại cho không gian bằng những đường nét tròn, nguyên khối, MONOSTU cùng với MONOTAB ra đời trong bối cảnh như vậy.
MONOTAB là chiếc bàn đi với bộ 2 hoặc 4 ghế V3, được thiết kế tạo cảm giác nguyên khối từ mặt bàn đến chân bàn. MONOTAB làm cho phương vị xiên có phần linh hoạt của ghế V3 trở nên điềm tĩnh, vững chãi hơn khi đặt cạnh mình nhờ sự đơn nhất trong hình dáng.
Nếu như MONOTAB sinh ra để tạo sự cân bằng thì MONOSTU lại như phép lai của V3 và MONOTAB. Chiếc đôn lấy cảm hứng từ sự nguyên khối của MONOTAB và phần lưng của V3, vừa tạo ra cảm giác vững chãi, vừa có sự sinh động, duyên dáng riêng
